
Patrick Laughlin- Friends of Brown Men’s Soccer Head Coaching Chair Pat Laughlin was named the Friends of Brown Men's Soccer Head Coaching Chair in March of 2010 and became just the sixth coach in Brown's 85-year soccer history. In his first season with the Bears, Laughlin helped guide the team to a 12-4-4 record while going undeafeated at Stevenson Field with a 9-0-3 record. Bruno made its 25th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, as well as its first trip to the Sweet 16 since 2000 with a home victory over Boston College and a thrilling 7-6 penalty kick victory in Storrs over Connecticut. Seven bears earned All-Ivy recognition, three were Division 1 NEISL All-Stars, four received All-Northeast Region honors, and one was invited to the MLS Player Combine. Laughlin follwed it up by capturing the Ivy Title in 2011 and receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournment, making it to the Third Round for the second censecutive year. Seven bears earned All-Ivy honors, including two First Team selections, and two were selected to the NSCAA All-Northeast Region team. Laughlin also had four selected to the NEISL All-Star squad, and two CoSIDA/Capital One First Team Academic All-District honorees. A 1992 graduate of the University of Maine, Laughlin brings 16 years of collegiate coaching experience to Brown, which includes one season as an assistant with the Bears during the 2009 season. That year, the bears earned a 5-2 mark in the Ivy League and went 11-3-5 on the year to earn its 24th NCAA Appearance. Seven players received All-Ivy Honors, while two received NSCAA All-Northeast Region honors. In just two seasons with Maine, Laughlin improved on a team that was riding a 26-game winless streak and made positive improvements in all areas of the program. During his first year, he guided his squad to a thrilling 1-0 overtime win over UMass, a team that played in the 2007 College Cup, in his first game behind the bench and went on to improve to 2-0 at home early in the season with a 3-2 win over Long Island University. After a 1-1 draw with UNH, Laughlin earned his 100th career victory with a 2-1 victory over Hartford. At the conclusion of the season, the Black Bears had a freshman named to the 2007 America East All-Rookie team, becoming the first player since the 2004 season to garner that honor. Another one of Laughlin’s players earned the same honor in the 2008 season, while two earned spots on the America East Men’s Soccer All-Academic Team. Laughlin also had a senior captain chosen to play in the 2009 New England Intercollegiate Soccer League All-Star game. The Black Bears, who were in contention for an America East playoff berth until nearly the last week of the season, jumped 69 spots from the previous season in the 2007 final RPI rankings. It was one of the most significant increases in the nation, as Maine tangled with two teams ranked in the top five in both Boston College and Brown, and also 10 teams in the top 55.
Before joining the Rams, Laughlin was head coach at Dean College for six years. Laughlin helped take the program to new heights, which included its first-ever trip to the NJCAA National Finals in 2002. During his tenure, the Bulldogs captured the New England Region Championship in 2002 and 2003, and were finalists in 2005. He coached four NJCAA All-Americans and four Academic All-Americans, and combined for a record of 69-36-6 and was named the New England Regional Coach of the Year and was also a finalist for the National Coach of the Year in 2002. Prior to his arrival at Dean, Laughlin built a program at Champlain College and posted a 28-21-3 record in his three seasons there, and also assisted at Cleveland State University. A native of Dallas, Texas, Laughlin is a 1992 graduate of the University of Maine, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, and went on to earn his Masters of Education in Sports Management at Cleveland State University in 1996 while serving as an assistant coach. Laughlin enjoyed a successful collegiate career playing for the Black Bears, as his teams were ranked among the top 10 in the New England Region three out of his four years. He captained the team as a senior in 1992, and over his career was named to the North Atlantic Conference All-Academic team in addition to receiving University of Maine Scholar-Athlete honors three times. He is a member of the Region I Olympic Development Program regional staff, and was head coach of the Region I under 15 boys team. Laughlin holds a “B” Coaching License from the United States Soccer Federation and an Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America
Sam Groves- Assistant Coach Brown University - Joined Brown University men's soccer staff in the summer of 2011 as a volunteer assistant coach under the guidance of Head Coach Patrick Laughlin. A former four-year letter winner at the University of Hartford, Groves served as a team captain as a senior in 2010 and was selected to play in the NEISL All-Stargame. A native of Sutton, Mass., Groves made 60 career starts and appeared in 67 of 68 games with the Hawks. He helped lead Hartford to a 27-29-13 overall record, which included three consecutive appearances in the America East tournament(2007-2009). Groves finished his career with 10 points on a pair of goals and six assists and helped the Hartford defense shut out 22 opponents as a midfielder. A two-timeAmerica East Academic Honor Roll selection, and a Commissioner's Honor Roll member in 2009, Groves graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences with a degree in history. Groves currently holds a USSF E License and a NSCAA National Diploma
Andrew Biggs- Assistant Coach Brown University -Andrew Biggs joined the Brown men's soccer coaching staff in July of 2010. A graduate of Middlebury College, Biggs was the head coach at the University of NewEngland for four seasons prior to his arrival at Brown. During his time at New England, Biggs coached the program's first winning season in 10 years along with its first 10-win season since 1997. He took over a programt hat averaged less than three wins per season since the year 2000, and under his guidance the Nor'easters made two Commonwealth Coast ConferenceChampionship appearances. Biggs also served at the University of New England as an assistant men's soccer coach from 1993-1998. In addition to coaching, Biggs was also the director of soccer coaching and player development for Soccer Maine and was named the National Soccer Coaches Association America Youth Boys' National Coach of the Year in 1999. He has also served as a member of the United States Soccer Federation Instructional Staff, and has his USSF "A" license. Biggs was also a founder of Odyssey Sport 97 youth soccer club in 1997 and served as the clubs Technical Director. Biggs began his collegiate career at the University of Pennsylvania, and went on to Middlebury College where he received his Bachelor of Arts in History. After college he played in New Zealand for Western Suburbs in the Central Premier League and then competed for the Arizona Cotton of the United States Inner Soccer League.
Jason Burnett- Assistant Coach Brown University -Jason Burnett joined the Brown University men's soccer staff in August 2011 as an assistant coach under Patrick Laughlin. Previously, Burnett served as an assistant at the University of Vermont for one season working with the team's goalkeepers.Burnett arrived at UVM after a successful four-year career at Saint Michael's College. A goalkeeper, he served as team captain and was an All-New England selection as a senior. During his career at SMC he ranked among the Northeast-10 Conference leaders in six different categories, including saves, shutouts and goals against average. He was part of a four-year class that won 37 games, the most by any four-year class in the program's history. Burnett earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Saint Michael's
